Very quickly you learnt the names Brandon, Brenda, Steve, Kelly, Dylan, Donna, David and Andrea. When you watched the show you wanted to be in their gang. Jim & Cindy (Brandon & Brendas parents) where the perfect parents for some. The show brought up topics that young people/teenagers could identify with. Whether it was good or bad topics. For 10 seasons they went through a lot. From Brandon & Brenda walking into West Beverly High in the first episode to David & Donna's wedding in the last episode.
Many tv shows had merchandise and Beverly Hills 90210 was no exception. You could get anything from dolls to trading cards. The merchandise I had was: trading cards, bedding set, pencil case, school bag and t-shirts. These are the things I can remember I had. I may have had more. I also had the soundtrack on cassette. And I had posters hanging in my room. Today I still have the bedding set and the cassette. A few months ago I bought the set of trading cards, I collected back then.
In the last days of february 2019 something happened that no one ever thought
was possible. It was announced that Beverly Hills 90210 was coming back with 6 episodes in the summer of 2019. It wasn't a reboot but a version where the actors play a heightend version of themself. And a version where they come together to talk about a reboot of the show. The actors who where announced who was goibg to be in it was Ian Ziering, Gabrielle Carteris, Tori Spelling, Jason Priestley, Jennie Garth and Brian Austin Green. It was later revealed that Shannon Doherty was coming on board too.
I'm pretty excited about these 6 episodes but I'm trying not to be over excited since I don't want to get disappointed when I watch the episodes.
A few days later after the annoucement of the episodes tragic struck and LukePerry died after a stroke. The cast and fans of Beverly Hills 90210 (and Riverdale) was devastated. I couldn't believe one my first young girl crushes had passed away at such a young age.
A Danish magazine made a 10 page tribute to Luke after his passing.
The new episodes and Luke's passing have made me think about how much Beverly Hills 90210 meant to me growing up and how much it still means to me. It's one of my favorite tv shows ever. And at the moment my teenage self is overjoyed by the fact that her favorite tv show is 'coming back' as BH 90210 for 6 episodes. Thank you to Gabrielle, Jason, Jennie, Shannon, Ian, Brian, Tori (& Luke) for Beverly Hills 90210 and for making these 6 new episodes.
