Today was the day...
At 5.15 pm I had to be at the meeting place, where I would be given the lanyard for the Meet & Greet. I was there a little early. While I was waiting I got to talk to some people from Southeast Asia who had taken the trip all the way to the UK to see Steps. One of them was going to the Meet & Greet too.
When it was 5.15 pm we got in line. I was second in line. I got my lanyard and was told where I had to be about 30 mins later. I found the place directly afterwards, so I stood as the second in line again. While I was in the line I thought I heard some speak Danish behind me. And I was correct. There were a Danish couple who also was going to the Meet & Greet. We talked for a while. I told them I thought I would be the only Dane at the concert (and the M&G). They had the exact same thought. I walked up to my spot again and waited.
After about 30 minutes a guy came I told us to walk to entrance. We did and after going through a metal detector and getting my bag checked I got through. After getting through the entrance we waited for a small amount of time a guy lead us through to the room where the Meet & Greet was going to be.
While we were in the room we where told to get in line. I was second in line again. The guy from Southeast Asia was the first in line but he was too nervous so he asked me if I wanted to be first in line. I said ok. While I was first in line a woman in a electrial wheelchair was getting more and more anxious by the minute and her helper asked me if it was ok that she could be first in line. I said off course.
Then it was time to the Meet & Greet. When it was time for me to meet Steps I was a little nervous...Not as nervous as I thought I would be. I was asked if I wanted anything signed. I gave my ticket and they signed it before I went in. When I saw them I got a hug from Faye and Lee. I was standing between H and Claire. H loved my outfit. He asked my where my accent was from. When I told him it was from Denmark he was amazed and surprised at the same time. I told him it was my first time seeing them live. He then told me to have an amazing time and that I would love the concert.
Then it was over...The Meet & Greet went too quickly. They are just the sweetest. I got my stuff and went out of the room. When I came out a guy asked if I wanted to wait there until I could get into the arena or go out in the main hall (if I wanted something to eat). I told him I wanted to wait there (I had eaten before the Meet & Greet). When the doors opened, the guy told me that I could walk into the arena which I did.
I found my place and I just waited until the first act, Max Restaino came on. I didn't know who he was. His music was actually pretty good. He played for about 15 minutes until there where a small break before the second act, Vengaboys came on.
When they came on the party bascially started. They played all the songs people know and we were singing a long. After about 30 minutes they were done and it almost was time for Steps.
About 8.40 pm the show started. Steps started out singing Scared Of The Dark from their new album. All the nerves I had beforehand if I was going enjoying a concert on my own (meaning not having any friends or family come along) was long gong because I was already singing and dancing. And that was just under the first song. After that they sang Deeper Shade Of Blue.
And then Chain Reaction. Then it was time to the song Happy, also from their new album. And then Stomp. Then is was a medley of Better Best Forgotten / Last Thing On My Mind.
The next one was Enough is Enough / No More Tears On The Dancefloor. The next song was Dancing With A broken Heart, which is from the deluxe version of their new album. Then it was When I Said Goodbye.
Then came the song which started it all for Steps. 5,6,7,8. I have always loved that song. And I do have to say that performance was one my highlights from the concert. I so loved it.
The next song was Better The Devil You Know. Then It's The Way You Make Me Feel. Heartbeart, which was they only Christmas number one was the next song.
Then they sang Story Of A Heart while a compliation of they old videos was shown on screen.
Then it was a medley again. Summer Of Love / Paradise Lost / Despacito. Then it was Neon Blue. Another one of the songs from their new album. And I totally love this song.
Then it was medley time again. This time it was Love U More / You'll Be Sorry / After The Love Has Gone.
The second last song of the night was Love's Got A Hold Of My Heart. The Last song was One For Sorrow. I was singing and dancing like my life was depending on it while they sang this song. I got totally griped by the atmosphere at the arena. When they were done they got off stage.
The audience kept clapping since we knew they hadn't performed one song which is probably one of their most well known songs. That song was Tragedy and that was the song they played for the encore. While Lisa, Faye & Claire was dancing with men and Lee with a woman under Tragedy, H was dancing with a man. I loved it. ;-)
At the end of one of the songs. The word Love Wins was on the screen in rainbow colours. I loved the gesture and the meaning behind it. And at one point in one of the songs there were 2 guys dancing with each other and 2 women who were dancing with each other.
Then 2 hours had past and the concert was over. And then I went on my way back to the hotel. Which I arrived about ½ hour after the concert was over.
The Meet & Greet and concert was one of my absolute highlights this year. I don't regret one bit that I decided to go by myself. I was dancing and singing a long all through the concert and I couldn't have enjoyed it more than I did. I really had the time of my life that day/night. I've been a fan for 20 years. And having a dream coming true after 20 years is something special.
Even though the Meet & Greet was over too quickly I will always treasure those few minutes I got to spend with Steps. And they were so nice. And both Lee and H smelled nice. ;-)
