Review: Steps - Tears On The Dancefloor

This year it's 20 years ago since Steps was formed and came out with 5-6-7-8 their first single, and here in 2017 they have released a brand new album called Tears On The Dancefloor. Since I've been a fan of them ever since 1997 I couldn't wait for the album to come out.

The first single and the first track on the album is Scared Of The Dark. I have to be honest that when I heard the first lines of the song I initially thought "hmm, I don't know if I'm going to like this song", since I thought it was to slow.  But I quickly changed my mind. And I ended up loving the song before it was over. And now I can't get enough out it.  And I basically already know the dance moves to this song.

The 2nd track on the album is You Make Me Whole. The song is one of the more dance friendly songs. It's definitely a song that could be played at nightclubs. I'm not the biggest fan of dance friendly/nightclub  songs but I like this song. And Steps makes the genre Dance to their own.

The 3rd track is Story Of A Heart. The song is written by Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson from ABBA. The song have never been recorded by ABBA. Benny Andersson and his Orchestra recorded it for it album. I actually knew the original so I was excited to hear Steps' version of it. The song is a perfect Steps song. And it kind of sound like the ABBA sound and the Steps sound have merged into one sound. Definitely a must listen. Both for an ABBA fan and a Steps fan.

The 4th track is Happy. This song have like You Make Me Whole a nightclub feeling over it. And I like it. Maybe that's because it still sounds like Steps just with some modern sound to it.

The 5th track is No More Tears On The Dancefloor. The song is written by Darren Hayes who most people know from Savage Garden. Even though this song also is a more dance friendly song to the nightclubs you can definitely hear the pop in it too. The perfect mix of both genres. Love that you can hear Lee a lot on this track.

The 6th track is Firefly. I loved this song from the moment I head the first time. Especially the chorus. I didn't take me long before I could sing a long to the chorus. And I can't stop making moves/dance when I listen to this song.

The 7th track is Space Between Us. This song I had to listen to a few times before I could have an opinion about the song. And the more I hear the song the more I love it. For me it's just one of the songs that takes a bit of time to get used to. I love H lead vocal on this song.

The 8th track is Glitter and Gold. Even though the song starts out with a deep bass sound I really love this song. And it didn't take me long before I could sing along to the chorus. The song kind of reminds of some of the pop/dance tracks from the 90's.

The 9th track on the album is Neon Blue. This song is my absolutely favourite track on the album. This song is has Steps written all over it. It's a song they easily could have recorded 20 years ago. I and love that you can hear all of them on this track. The song is the only song of the album which was on my mind when I woke two mornings in a row.

The 10th and finally track on the album is I will Love Again. The song is an cover and was originally sung by Lara Fabian. I knew the original song so I was excited to hear the cover by Steps. And I love it, Steps have made a fantastic cover. And in my opinion it's just as good as the Lara Fabian version.

In total Steps has made one of their best albums to date. They still have the Steps sound as it was back 20 years ago. And still they have been able to update their sound so they sound like Steps with a modern sound in 2017. I really love that you can hear Lee & H much more on this album. It's so nice to hear them on lead vocals. My top 3 favourite songs on the album are Scared Of The Dark, Story Of A Heart and Neon Blue.
