This was the day where I was going to New York. I had stayed at my
parents place so we got up, and got ready to go. I was going to
Amsterdam by plane from Billund. And I had to boarde around 09.35
am.
Around 07.40 am we arrived at Billund Airport. We said goodbye and I went inside. I dropped off my luggage at the bagage drop and I went through security pretty quickly. Then I just had to make the time to go before boarding.
At 09.35 I boarded and the plane took off at the time. And the plane arrived in Amsterdam an hour later. When I came out of the plane, I found out where I was suspossed to go on my way to Newark. When I arrived in the area, I had to go through a check at Delta (the airline who I was traveling with to Newark). When I had been through the check, I went out and window shopped for a while before I headed over to the gate. The boarding started at the right time. The plane did taxi out at the right time, but thee was some waiting since there were 5 planes before us who had to leave before we could. When the plane was in the air it didn't take long before I got some snacks. And a short while after I got some lunch. After that I just relaxed for a while. I also slept a little. Actually more than the other times I have travelled to the US. After about hours in air we arrived to Newark Airport.
I came pretty quickly out of the plane and then I had to go through customs. After 20 minuts I was through and I went out to the luggage belt and found my suitcase. Now I just had to get out and find a taxi which could take me to New York. I came out of the airport and there wasn't even gone 5 minutes before I was sitting in a taxi on my way to New York. About 45 minutes later the taxi was holding outside my hotel. I really didn't get to see my suitcase since one of the workers of the hotel took the suitcase from the taxi and into the hotel while I was paying the driver. I went into the hotel which was called Hotel Chandler and checked in. When I had recieved the key to my room, the worker from the hotel took my suitcase over to the elevators and I did the same. We came up to the 12th floor and found my room. we came in and the worker sat my suitcase and left.
I went through my room to check what there was, and how the bathroom looked like. I took some photos of the room and then I unpacked my suitcase. While I was unpacking the phone in the room rang. It was the reception asking if the room was fine. I told them that it was. After I had unpacked, I went out and saw a little bit of New York City. It was about dinner time and I was starting to feel hungry so I went out and found something to eat. When I was done and walking back to the hotel I went into a drugstore (Duane Reade) and bought some water and some breakfast for monday morning. The rest of the evening I just relaxed at my hotelroom since I was a little tired after the long trip.

Monday August 17th
I didn’t sleep that much due to the jetlag. So I woke up around 4 am and then I couldn’t sleep anymore. A bit annoying, but it was nothing I could do about it. I tried to solve crosswords for a while but it didn’t help very much, so I ended up having to turn on the TV in the room, and then I just laid and watched TV until around 8 am, when I thought it was time to get up. So I got up and went in the bathroom, ate the breakfast I had bought on sunday.
When the time was between 10-11 am, I decided to go and out experience New York. I hadn’t really decided what I should do, but I knew I would go up around Times Square.
As I walked out the door of my room, I decided to take the stairs down instead of taking the elevator. So I went down and out to the front door of the hotel when I got there, there was one of the employees and he opened the door for me.
I went out into the somewhat warm air since I arrived at the beginning of a short heat wave. I walked until I came to the street Broadway. And then I went up until I was around a lot of people. So I was well aware that I was probably not far from Times Square. And sure enough, I had arrived at Times Square. The area is a little bigger in fact than I thought. I knew there was a Tim Hortons (the Canadian version of Starbucks, they just have better coffee) in the area. I had checked the address before I had left the hotel, I so knew approximately where I was going. I found it and bought some coffee and a muffin. When I left with the coffee and muffin, I went to Times Square and sat at a table. So while I drank the coffee and ate, I enjoyed the view over Times Square.
I had seen that Madame Tussauds was on the same street as Tim Hortons, so when I finished the coffee and muffin I went trip to Madame Tussauds and spent some time there. When I was done thetr, I went to Ripley's Believe or Not, which was right next door. After that I went around in the Times Square area. I decided to take a trip to Toys ‘n' Us when I was there to see the Ferris wheel they have. I walked around in there for a while. Even there you could buy NY souvernirs.
After walking around for a while, I decided to go back to the hotel to relax a little. Later I began to get hungry, so I went out to get something to eat. I found a place to eat. And when I was done, I walked around a bit before I went back to the hotel.
I left the hotel and started walking down 5th Avenue. I didn't go very far before I found the Flatiron building. The building is very special as it looks a bit like a triangle. And the building is somewhat "flat". In the area around the Flatiron building there is a park called, Madison Square Park. I went in there and found a place to sit. And then I enjoyed the nice view and the warm weather before I went on.
I had a few things (CD / DVD) that I needed to find. I had found out that there was a Best Buy in the area around the Flatiron Building, so I found the store. I actually quite fast found both the CD and the DVD. So they were purchased. Before I left I had found out that Tiger (danish store) had opened their first shop in the US, and it was on Broadway in New York. And since it wasn't very far away from where I was, I went there to see if it had the same concept as in Denmark. And it was the same concept. It was a little surreal, walking around in there. I bought a small gift for Jaime. Then I just walked around the area and looked at the buildings until I decided to go along 5th Avenue again.
As I walked along 5th Avenue, I passed Rockefeller Center. Many know Rockefeller Center as the place where there is a huge Christmas tree for Christmas. I went into some of the stores, located at Rockefeller Center, just to look around. Then I went further up 5th Avenue. I came to the jewelry store Tiffany & Co., which became famous in the film "Breakfast at Tiffany's" with Audrey Hepburn. I went in to see the store. It was at once exciting to see the store but at the same time I felt a bit "out of place" when the jewelry is so expensive that I couldn't afford anything.
When I came to where Central Park started from 5th Avenue ago, I turned around since I would rather go another day to Central Park, and spend several hours there since the park is very big. As I walked down 5th Avenue, I came to a restaurant called TGI Fridays, where I decided to eat lunch.
When I finished, I went back to the hotel and relaxed for a while. When it was time for dinner, I went out and found a place to eat. When I finished, I went back to the hotel and relaxed for the rest of the evening.

Tuesday August 18th
I slept a little

anyway around 7

got up, got some breakfast and got prepared to go out. I

Wednesday August 19th
Today I was
going to see the musical Finding Neverland. I
had decided to be in the hotel in the morning, since I had tickets to see it at
2.00 pm. Then
I could use the time to relax, and get ready.
I won't write as much about the experience in this diary since I have written a post about it: Finding Neverland - The Musical
After I had seen the musical, I walked around Times Square until it was time to eat dinner. I found a place and eat. And when I finished that, I went back to the hotel, to reflect on the day's experience.

Thursday. August 20th
This day I decided to take a trip down to downtown New York. I woke up between 7-8 am, again I just relaxed, and watched some tv before I got up and got ready to go out the door.
I walked out to Broadway and then I started to go toward downtown. As I walked I looked at the buildings and how each area looked. I had some stops along the way, as the weather was very hot and the humidity was high. I also had water to quench the thirst.
When I was walking in downtown, I first came past Ground Zero, where the terrorist attack took place on Sunday. September 11, 2001. It was strange to be there because it is an event that changed the world for split second. I had a certain respect, as I walked in the area. I also passed Wall Street. I must be honest and admit that I was somewhat disappointed when I saw the street. You've always heard so much about Wall Street, most as it’s where the US stock exchange is located. The street is a side street to Broadway. Most of the street is closed to cars, and the street is not very long. When I finished off Wall Street, I walked up to Broadway again and continued down until Broadway ended. All in all, the trip took about an hour on foot from my hotel to the end of Broadway with walking to Ground Zero and down Wall Street. At the end of Broadway, there was the ferry to Staten Island. The ferry is a commuter ferry that sails between the island of New York and the island of Staten Island. The ferry ride takes about 20-25 minutes and you can see the Statue of Liberty on the trip. The ferry is free. I had prior to leaving decided that I would take a ride on the ferry, so since I was in the area, I decided to take the ferry.
When I came to the queue, I was lucky. Because we hadn’t waited for more than 5 minutes before we got on the ferry. I found a place at one of the windows (which was open), so I had a great opportunity to enjoy the view of New York from the water. I also took some pictures. Both of the Statue of Liberty and the skyline of New York. When we almost had reached Staten Island, I had to make a decision, would I experience the island for a bit or should I take the ferry again immediately. I ended up taking the ferry immediately after we had reached the island. On the trip over to New York, I went to the other side of the ferry, so I got a different view than the one I had seen on the way to Staten Island. And again I had a place at the window.
When we came back to New York, I went around Battery Park. Much of the park was closed off because of renovations. So I could not enjoy the park as much. But there was a new carousel in the park, which I just got a glimpse of. After having walked around for a while, I decided to go back to the hotel. I had a break, when I was in Union Square Park. I sat down a bit and had some water. I came back to the hotel and relaxed.
In the evening I went to Times Square, where I was one of the side streets found even a TGI Fridays. So I went in and got my dinner. When I was done, I went out to Times Square again. Before I had left I had decided that I wanted to experience New York by night. And since I am afraid of the dark, it required a bit of courage. But this evening I decided that I had to experience New York while it was dark. By nightfall I went to Times Square, and it was a different experience to see Times Square by night than in daylight.

Friday, August 21st
Apparently sleep wasn’t something I was supposed t do, since I again woke up between 7-8 am. I had decided that I was going to spend some of the day in Central Park. I got up, got ready and went out the door.
I walked up Broadway until I reached the beginning of Central Park. Before I took the trip into Central Park, I went right into a small shopping center (located at Columbus Circle). When I had looked in there, I went into Central Park. Today's trip was going to find Strawberry Fields, the memorial, which is made to John Lennon. I enjoyed the weather and the park while I tried to find Strawberry Fields. I eventually found it and took a picture. Otherwise I just walked around. I found some rocks I could stand. So I stood on them and enjoyed the skyline over New York.
When I had walked around in Central Park for a few hours, I went back to the hotel. Again I took the trip down Broadway, and sometimes I looked down the side streets, to see if there was anything interesting. There were a few shops that I went into.
After relaxing at the hotel, I went out and found something to eat. I chose a diner called Tick Tock Diner, which was next to the hotel The New Yorker. When I was finished eating and had paid, I went out and enjoyed a few hours in the area before I went back to the hotel.

Saturday, August 22nd
This morning I relaxed even though I had woken early. I hadn’t really made any plans besides that I was going out for dinner with my friend Jaime. I was watching some tv, and looked at what I could do before I went to dinner.
I ended going out and found where the Danish consulate in New York was. Both for curiosity's sake but also if the case of something happened I knew where they were located.
I knew the consulate was on 2nd Avenue a little way north from where I stayed and and a little north from the United Nations building in New York. So I walked toward the UN building, and from there, I went up to 2nd Avenue and found the building where the consulate is located. It's pretty funny that building the consulate located in is called Dag Hammarskjold Plaza. And the US Embassy in Copenhagen is located on Day Hammarskjolds Alle.
From there I went over to Lexington Avenue and found the Chrysler building. And when I found it, I went on over to Times Square. I decided to see if I could get some of the actors from Finding Neverlands autographs before I went out for dinner with Jaime. I went over to the theater and waited until they came out. I got some autographs but I didn’t get Matthew Morrison as he wasn’t there that day. Then I just decided to head out to the place I was going to meet Jaime.
I hurried as much as I could to get up to Alice's Tea Cup. But I was a little delayed. I saw Jaime and we said hello to each other. We got a table and we sat down. We talked for a while before we ordered something to eat. I gave Jaime, the gift I had brought along. It was a postcard of Randers, a Danish troll on a magnet. As well as the hobby pegs, I had bought at Flying Tiger earlier that week. All things were in the bag from Flying Tiger. Jaime was sincerely happy for the gift. And I was happy. When we were done, we went down to my hotel. We talked a lot on the way there. We went into the hotel and got some coffee and talked a little before we said good night and Jaime went up to her place. I went up to the room and got ready to go to bed.

Sunday, August 23rd
Again, like all the other days, I woke up early. I just had to figure out what I had to do this day.
Since I hadn’t gotten Matthew Morrison's autograph on Saturday, I had decided that I would try again today. The only show they had that day was at 3 pm. Since the show lasted about 2 hours and 35 minutes, I had to be around the theatre around 5.35 pm.
So now I just have to figure out what I had to do before that. I hadn’t seen Grand Central Terminal yet, so I should go see it. I got ready and went out.
Before I went up to Grand Central Terminal, I found the Cake Boss Shop, located on 8th Avenue. Cake Boss is a TV show running on the channel TLC, and I have seen this show. And I was just going to see the shop for curiosity's sake. From there, I went to Grand Central Terminal. It is a hub for rail traffic in New York. It is also very large.
From there I walked around a bit and ended up a little further up and found Love the sign, which stands on a street corner. I've seen it in pictures plenty of times, so I just had to take a picture of it. The time was starting to approach that I had to go over to the theater, so I could try to see if I could get some autographs. So I started walking over there. When I arrived, there was still room in front of the barrier, so I found a place to stand. And then I just had to wait until they came out. This time I was luckier. I got Matthew Morrison's autograph. And he was standing right in front of me. It was a little weird. I didn’t take a picture with him, but I have his autograph some pictures of him, and I have the experience. I also got the female actor's autograph and a picture with her. I also received some more autographs.
So when I left there, it was a very smiling young woman who had to go out and find something to eat. When I had something to eat, I went out on a walk where I saw Madison Square Garden Carniege Hall. Both are well known venues in New York before I went back to the hotel.

Monday,
August 24th
I was going to use this day to see buildings, places and other things that I had not seen yet. Among other things, I wanted to walk across the Brooklyn Bridge.
So I got ready and then went out and looked forward to what the day would bring. I found the way down to the area around the Brooklyn Bridge. Before I even reached the bridge, I found the courthouse in New York. Not far from there, there was some filming to either a TV series or film. I never did found out what was filmed.
Brooklyn Bridge is something of a long bridge that goes from the island of New York (Manhattan) to Brooklyn. You can drive over it or you can take it by foot or by bike. This day I took it by foot all the way. There was a beautiful view on both sides of the bridge. Also from the New York side and from the Brooklyn side. I don’t know how long it took to go over the bridge. But I would certainly have missed walking across the bridge. When I had come over the bridge, I was in Brooklyn. I walked around and saw some different things before I just had to sit down and relax for a while. When I had been sitting there a bit, I went a little further until I thought it was time to return to New York and Manhattan. So I walked over the Brooklyn Bridge again.
When I came across the bridge and was on Manhattan again, I was starting to get a little bit tired. I then decided to start walking back to the hotel, and then I could find something to eat on the way there. I found a place to eat. And when I was finished, I went to the hotel and relaxed for the rest of the day. And I rested my tired feet.

Tuesday,
August 25th
Today I had decided to take another trip to Central Park. This time it would be in another part of the park compared to the other day I was in the park. So I got ready and went out the door.
This time I went up 5th Avenue until I reached Central Park. I went into the park. I knew that I would try to find Hans Christian Andersen's statue, which stands in the park. And besides that I just had to see what I would find in the park. I found a route. And along the route, there were some statues of literary people. There was a statue of Robert Burns (he wrote the song Auld Lang Syne). There was also a statue of Columbus. I also found one of what I think was Shakespeare. I reached a lake, where there was a statue of Alice in Wonderland. And on the other side of the lake was the statue of Hans Christian Andersen. When I had taken a picture of him, I went further into Central Park. There was a place in the park where there was something being filmed for CBS (I think it's a TV series, just don’t know which one). I walked around the park, when I discovered that there actually was a Zoo. So I decided to see what it was.
It is not a big zoo, but it's there. A little exciting actually. There were birds, bears, seals. And they actually had a small rainforest as well. There was also a 4D movie Ice Age, which was shown in the zoo. So when I had to pay for the ticket, I decided to take it. And the film was good. I sat and grinned several times, even though the movie only lasted for about 10 minutes. When I came out of the zoo was a stand of Dippin 'Dots, which I havn’t had since I was in Canada in September 2013. So I just had to buy some that I could eat while I went into town again.
I walked around the side streets off 5th Avenue, before I found something to eat. And then I went back to the hotel and enjoyed myself for the rest of the evening.

Wednesday,
August 26th
When I woke up I watched a bit of tv and relaxed until I felt it was time to get up. I had breakfast, and got ready.
Today I decided that I would walk around in the midtown area, and check out some of the stores. I had seen a TLC show called "Say Yes To The Dress", which was about a wedding gown store in New York. So I set out to see if I could find the store, called Kleinfeld. To find it I had to walk toward downtown. It was not long before I found the store. I didn’t go inside the store, but took a picture from the other side of the road.
When I left, I had no plan of what I wanted to do so I just started walking up to my hotel and when I got up there, I continued until I found a store that looked interesting. I went into Victoria's Secret (lingerie) and had bought a little bit. I also went into Forever 21, and bought a dress and a top. I went into different clothing stores like Aeropostale, Urban Outfitters, American Eagle Outfitters and Express. I mostly went into stores, we don’t have in Denmark. Also went into Sephora (a larger version of Matas, they sell brand makeup).
During the afternoon, I went back to the hotel with the things I had bought and relaxed for a while. When it was time to have dinner, I went out and walked to find a place to eat, I found a place where I got a table, and then I got something to eat. When I finished, I went back to the hotel.

Thursday, August 27th
The day before I had decided that I would take a trip to Hoboken, New Jersey today. The reason hy it was Hoboken were because of a show called "Cake Boss", where the bakery is located in Hoboken. So I got up, got ready and walked out the door.
You could take the train from New York to Hoboken about 15 minutes from a train station that was about 2 blocks from where I stayed. So I went there. I bought a ticket. And I was lucky because the train was already on the platform. So I went into the train, and shortly after it drove. And about 15 minutes after I was in Hoboken. I came up from the station, and so I just had to find the bakery. The before I had looked at a map, and had approximately found the route, and about 5 minutes later I was at the bakery. Took a few pictures and then I walked around in the streets. As I walked up one of the streets, I actually walked past the mother, to him who owns the bakery. I said nothing, just went past her.
I also went for a walk down to the waterfront. There was more or less created a path as far as the eye could see, so I went for a walk on the path. I enjoyed the good weather and the water had a calming effect on me. So the two hours I walked on the path and back again, went fairly quickly. Then I decided to go back to New York. Before I went down to the station again, I took a quick visit to Dunkin 'Dounts. There I bought a dount and a smoothie. Then I went to the station and bought a ticket. Again I was lucky because the train was already on the platform. So I got on the train and it drove shortly after. As I sat on the train, I thought that now I could also say that I had been in the state of New Jersey. So now I had been in California, Nevada, New York and New Jersey.
When I came back to New York I went around and window shopped before I went back to the hotel. I just wanted to relax a bit before I went out for dinner with Jaime in the evening.
We had agreed to meet at 7 pm at Nomad. I had found a route to go and it had said that it would take about half an hour to go. Then around 6 pm I went so I had good time, if I saw something on way down there. I reached Nomad to around 6.40 pm. So I stood and waited. While I waited there was a pizza delivery man who had forgotten his phone when he was supposed to call those, that had ordered pizza. He asked me if he could borrow my phone (he asked me to dial the number). I said ok (I had a US number, so it wouldn’t be expensive). Afterwards he said thanks for the help to which I responded that he was welcome.
A few minutes past 7 pm Jaime arrived. We greeted each other, and walked into the restaurant, where we got a table. We sat down and ordered. I got a pizza. So we sat and talked. When we were finished eating Jaime asked if I would like to have a tarot reading. I said, yes. What the reading showed fit very well, and the future should be good. After that, we paid and then left to go to my hotel. When we had arrived at the hotel, we said goodbye when Jaime had to get up early the next day. We gave each other a big hug and said goodbye. Then Jaime went and I went into the hotel and up to my room.

Friday, August 28th
When I woke up, I'd didn’t wanted to get up yet, so I watched some tv before I got up and got ready. I had decided that I was going to spend the day, at Macy's, Bloomingdales, Bergdorf & Goodman and Saks Fifth Avenue. These are all department stores that are located in New York.
I started at Bergdorf & Goodman, located in the exclusive part of 5th Avenue. I wasn’t there for so long, because I couldn’t find my way around. So I went down to Macy's and I was there for quite some time. I was more or less on all floors except the children part. It was something nice to go inside Macy's. Then I took a trip to Bloomingdales. It looks like very much like Macy's just a little different selection especially clothes. When I had walked around in there long enough, I went on to Saks Fifth Avenue. There I also walked around for quite some time. When I was leaving, I was hijacked by someone from the cream department. So I sat there for 5-10 minutes before I could walk. I also need to buy some souvenirs for myself. So I went down to the middle of Times Square, where the cheapest souvenir shop was. I bought a glass, a cup, keychain, socks and a t-shirt.
When I left the store, I went back to the hotel to relax for a while. A little later, when it was dinner time I went to Times Square and found the restaurant Olive Garden, where I ate the last supper before I went home the next day. Although I had chosen a restaurant right on Times Square, it wasn’t that expensive.
When I was finished eating, I went back to the hotel. I got checked in for the flight home. I had packed a little, so I didn’t have to so much Saturday. And then I just relaxed.

Saturday,
August 29th
The last day in New York. I was supposed to fly from Newark 6:05 pm, so I had a little time before I had to leave. My hotel room was booked until Sunday, so I didn’t need to hurry to check out. I took it quietly and calm. So I had breakfast, and got ready.
I had decided that this day would be pleasure trip and "farewell" tour. It meant that I had to say "goodbye" to some of the places I had been.
I started walking up to Times Square. I went to Tim Hortons and bought some coffee and a croissant. I sat down at Times Square and enjoyed the coffee and croissant. When I was finished, I walked around and then I went down Broadway. I went down to something called the Manhattan Mall. There was a store called JC Penney. So I walked around in there for a while until it was time to get back to the hotel and get packed so I could get check out.
At around 2:45 pm I had checked my room for the last time to be sure I hadn’t forgotten anything. Then I went out the door and closed the door for the last time. I took the elevator down and walked over to the front desk. The so-called bell boy took my suitcase and asked if I was checking out and if I needed a taxi. I said yes to both. He asked which airport I was going to. I said Newark and he ordered a taxi for me. I went over to the front desk and checked out. When that was done, I only waited a few minutes before the taxi arrived. Another bell boy took my suitcase out to the taxi and put it in the trunk. I got into the taxi. The driver asked me which company I had to fly with and I said Delta. And then he drove off to Newark Airport.
About 45 minutes later we arrived at Newark Airport. I paid him, and I got out. He took the suitcase out of the trunk and I got it. I went into the airport and handed my suitcase over. So I went upstairs, got through security with no problems. So now I had for a little over one hour before boarding started.
Around 5:10 pm they started boarding. It was not very long before I was on board on the plane. And at 6:05 pm the plane taxied out. It was not long after we had been in the air before we first got some snacks until dinner was served. Afterwards I tried to get some sleep. But things didn’t go according to plan. For I didn’t get much sleep.
Sunday, August 30th
Now we were in European territory, so now it was Sunday. We were served breakfast. An hour later we landed in Amsterdam after about 7 hours in the air. I came off the plane and found out which gate I was going to, to get to Billund. So I started to walk to the gate. I got through passport control after some time and it didn’t take so long before I found the gate. I then discovered that the gate had been changed in the meantime, so now I was going to another gate.
So I had to go to the other gate instead. It was not that far apart and I had landed earlier than planned so I had enough time. I walked over to the right gate, waiting for it to open and they started boarding.
When they started to board it did not take so long before I got on the plane. So now I was waiting for the final voyage before I reached Denmark. Approximately 1 hour after we landed in Billund Airport. It was very nice to have Danish soil under my feet again.
When we got off the plane, we stood and waited for the luggage to come. When I finally saw my suitcase, I took it and went out to the arrival hall, where my parents were waiting for me. We gave each other a hug and we went out to the car. We got in and then went to on our way to Randers.
When we came to Randers and where I live. I got out and got my suitcase. I said goodbye to my parents and then went up to my apartment. I put the suitcase from me and took my purse. I just wanted to done a little bit of shopping before I unpacked. For I knew that I would "collapse" during the afternoon.
Since the purchases were finished, I got unpacked. And then I just relaxed after the long journey home.
Postscript
While I am writing this it’s about 1 week ago, I came back home. I have enjoyed the trip very much and it is probably not the last time I'm going to New York.
I have only taken the train once on the trip and it was when I was in Hoboken. Otherwise I only have walked around New York. That means that I have walked many kilometers. The least I've walked is slightly over 8 km (4 miles) and the highest mileage is 34 km (22 miles). So in the 14 days I have been on vacation I have walked a min. of 354 km (219 miles).
