Diary Niagara Falls February 18th - 23rd 2012

Saturday, February 18^th 2012

Today was the day I was leaving for Niagara Falls. To get there I was going Billund – Amsterdam, Amsterdam – Detroit and Detroit – Buffalo. I would take a taxi from Buffalo to the Canadian side of Niagara Falls.

I had checked in the day before so I only had to drop my luggage off at the airport. I arrived at the airport around 9.30 am (CET) I dropped off my luggage. My plane was leaving at 12.10 pm (CET) to Amsterdam. So I had some time to spend in the airport. I window shopped for a while. Bought something to drink and a couple of magazines. About a half hour before the plane was leaving they started to board the plane. The plane went on time. And about a hour later we were in Amsterdam. When we arrived in Amsterdam I got of the plane and then I had to figure out which gate the plane to Detroit went from. I found the gate pretty quickly. At the gate I had to go through a small interview since I was going through the States to go to Canada. And I had to go through a security control again. When I was through it I found a place to sit and then waited to get to Detroit. The plane to Detroit went on time at 2.45 pm (CET). It would take about 9 hours to Detroit. The plane ride went well. We got something to eat. There were shown 2 movies on the plane ride. We were in Detroit 5.45 pm. When I got of the plane I had to get my luggage and then get through customs. Then I had to drop off my luggage again and then go through security. After that I had to find the right gate where the plane to Buffalo went. I found it and I waited until we could board. While we were sitting there it was announced over the speaker that they needed 2 volunteers who could take a later flight. The plane was overbooked. I didn't do anything since I now just wanted to be on my way to Buffalo. The plane was boarded and we went on time. Just under an hour later we arrived in Buffalo. When I came off the plane I went to the luggage belt. My luggage came as one of the first. When I had gotten my luggage I went over to a desk for transport/taxi. I asked if I could get a taxi to the Canadian side of Niagara Falls. One of the guys lead me outside to a taxi which was waiting. The driver got my luggage and put it in the trunk of the car. I got in and we drove to Niagara Falls. When we came to the American/Canadian border I was asked what I was going to do in Canada and for how long I was going to stay there. I answered the questions and I was let in to Canada. After that we drove to the hotel.

When we arrived at the hotel I paid the driver and went into the hotel. I had booked a room at the Best Western Fallsview. I went over to the reception and wanted to check in. I was told that they had upgraded my room so I could get a better view. I got my room key and I went up to the room. I laughed a little when I saw my room since I had enough room. There was 2 queen size beds in the room. I got my stuff unpacked and relaxed for a while before I decided to go to bed.

Sunday, February 19^th 2012

Today was the day I was going to the first of the 2 Band From TV concerts. And I was also going to meet Izumi.

I hadn't slept that well and had only gotten somewhere between 3-4 hous of sleep, I got up around 8.00 am and got myself ready. I relaxed for a while and watched some tv before I went down and got breakfast. When I went back to the room I took some pictures and some video. Then I decided to go down to see the falls.
The falls was really beautiful even at this time of the year. I took some pictures and some video of it. Then I decided go up to the Fallsview Casino Resort just to check out where the concert was going to be held so I didn't have to look for it at the concert with Band From TV. When I came into the resort it surprised how big it really was. I didn't think there both would be shops and restaurants. When I walked past one of the restaurants I saw one of the musicians from the band (Barry Sarna, keyboard). I found the entrance to the theater, where they was going to play. When I had walked around the resort for a while I decided to go back to the hotel. When I got out I walked past one of the other musicians from the band (Chris Kelley, guitar). Right before I went into the hotel I went into the Mini Mart which was a the hotel to buy something to drink and some souvenirs. Then I went up to my room and relaxed for a while before I would get ready to go to the concert and meet Izumi for the first time.

Izumi and I had texted each other through the day and had agreed that I should just get something to eat before we met. We had arranged to meet around 6.15 pm. So around 5.00 pm I went down to get some dinner before heading over to the venue. I was at the venue before time so I waited on Izumi. When she came we said hi and hugged each other. We found a pub and bought something to drink.

Monday, February 20^th 2012

When I went to bed I bascially fell asleep even before I hit the pillow. But still when I woke up this morning I was still tired and felt strange. I did get something to drink but not more than normal that would make me feel this way. So it was probably a mix between the jetlag and the alcohol. So I decided to stay in bed until 10.00 – 11.00 am. At some point Izumi texted me and asked if she could come over to my hotel. Off course she could. She arrived a little later. We got ready and went out to find something to eat. When we had eaten we headed over to the venue.

When the concert was over Izumi and I found a pub and got a drink before going back to the hotel. We had decided that Izumi was going to spend the night at my hotel from monday to tuesday. When we had been a the hotel for a while we went out and found something to eat. We sat and enjoyed our dinner for a while before heading back to the hotel. We just sat and enjoyed ourselves before it's was time for bed.

Tuesday, February 21^st 2012

After both Izumi and I have woken up we got ready and headed out for something to eat. We found a place and ordered some breakfast. When we were done we went a trip down to the falls. When we had been there for a while and had taken some pictures we headed up to the entertainment part of town. It was the part of town where the waxmuseums were, a Ferris wheel and restaurants. We decided to see Louis Tussaud's and Ripley's Believe or Not. When we came out from Ripley's there was a mix between rain and snow in the air. So we decided to go to Tim Hortons to get some coffee and to see if it would stop. It didn't stop but it was enough so we could get back to the hotel. After some time at the hotel we went out to get some dinner. When we came back to the hotel after dinner it was time for Izumi to leave. She had gotten a ride to Toronto with a friend of hers. He was waiting down at the lobby at the hotel. She got her things and we went down to the lobby. Izumi and I say goodbye (so long) and she left. When they had left I went up to the room. I started to pack my things since I was leaving in the morning. I took some pictures of Niagara Falls by night. I sat and watched some tv before I went to bed.

Wednesday, February 22^nd 2012

Today I was going back home to Denmark. It had been some really good days here.

I got up and get ready. I got the rest of my luggage packed. Then I just sat and watched tv until I had to check out from the hotel around 11 am. When it got around 10.45 am I checked the room for a last time to see if there's something I had forgotten. I hadn't forgotten anything. I took my things and wnet down to check out. The lady at reception ordered a taxi to come and pick me up at 12.30 pm. I got my luggage stored at the hotel until I left Niagara Falls. I went out of the hotel and walked around in the area of the hotel. I took some pictures. Then it started to rain and it was pretty windy. I went by the Mini Mart and bought something to drink and a snack. I went back to the hotel and asked if I could stay there until the taxi came and picked me up. That's was ok. So I stayed there. I ate my snack and drank the juice I had bought. About 12.30 pm the taxi came and picked me up.
The driver was very friendly and told me interesting things about Niagara Falls and Buffalo on the way to the airport. It went smoothly through the Canadian/American border and after about 45 min. we were at the airport. I got my luggage and went into the airport and dropped it off. I had checked into the flight tuesday.

When I had dropped it of I went through the security control. That's was easy. Then I found the gate where the plane to Detroit would take off. I waited and I waited. The boarding time was exceeded when another plane had to take off at the same gate before the plane to Detroit arrived at the gate. After a short period we were told the gate number at changed. So we went over to the new gate. Not long after we had arrived at the new gate they started boarding. When I had found my seat on the plane I got a little nervous since I only had a 1 hour layover in Detroit before the plane to Amsterdam would take off.

When the plane finally had taken off and we were in the air I asked the stewardess when we would arrive in Detroit since I had to catch a plane to Amsterdam. She gave me the time. Then I asked her if there would be enough time for me to catch it. She said I would be able to catch it. I thank her for the information and I became a little more calm. After a short period of time she came back and told me which gate the plane to Amsterdam would be at. I thanked her once more.

When we arrived in Detroit and I had come off the plane I rushed to the gate. I almost knew the way to the gate since it pretty much was the same gate I came to when I had arrived in Detroit on the 18^th. When I arrived at the gate they were already boarding. I got in line for the boarding and I got on the plane.

The plane was on time when it took off. Then I just had to spend about 8 hours in air before we were in Amsterdam.

Thursday, February 23^th 2012

About 7.30 (CET) the plane from Detroit arrived in Amsterdam. I had about a 2 hour layover in the airport. So when I came of the plane I found the gate and then I bought some sweets and something to drink. Then I just sat in the airport waiting to board the plane.

The plane went on time. And about an hour later we were in Billund. I came of the plane and went out to the luggage belt. It went a while before my luggage came. When I saw it I took it and I went out to my parents who were waiting for me. Then we went back home to Randers. When I came home I unpacked my stuff. And then I just relaxed for rest of the day.
